Orchid Spectrum

US-Botanic-Garden-Orchids-Hanging_editedThis weekend I put on my macro lens and headed to the United States Botanic  Garden to see their annual display of orchids– which includes an array of orchids of different colors, shapes, sizes, and scents.

A blue-tiled fountain runs down the center of the conservatory. Orchids surround the fountain, and hang overhead from rainbow colored strings. Apparently, orchids can hang from the ceiling and still flourish because their roots do not require soil.

The glass enclosure traps in the warmth, which apparently makes it a prime location for morning newspaper reading on a cold March day.

A lovely weekend adventure exploring this city I call home.
