I rang in the New Year in Portland, Oregon this year, alongside one of my closest friends. Together we explored the city & the various neighborhoods, hiked, and drank good beer (of course).I had been to Portland on numerous occasions, but I sincerely enjoyed exploring the city alongside a PDX native. I’m excited to share some highlights, and suggestions.
FOR A GOOD VIEW: A restaurant/bar called Departure sits on top of a the Nines Hotel. It offers views of Mt. Hood, and is perched in the middle of the city overlooking Pioneer Square. Solid city views.
FOR DONUTS: Voodoo Donuts is a iconic Portland establishment, known for its wacky donut names and strange flavor combinations. Having been there before, we opted to go to Blue Star Donuts instead. With flavors like “Raspberry Rosemary Buttermilk” and “Blueberry Bourbon Basil,” I was salivating before I placed my order.
FOR COFFEE, AND BEER (AKA NECESSITIES): Check out the Pearl District. It’s home to tasting rooms like Deschutes (yes!) and 10 Barrel, as well as new coffee shops. Pearl District is maintaining it’s warehouse district charm as it transforms into an up-and-coming area.
FOR ICONIC PDX SIGNS: My favorite Portland Icon, the White Stag sign. When you drive across one of Portland’s many bridges, it’s one of the first things you see.
The Portland sign at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
FOR HIKES WITH VIEWS: Take one of multiple trails up to Pittock Mansion, which I’ll cover in my next post.
